Did you know that there are other ways to weave colorful sturdy bands besides on an inkle loom. This class will explore other methods used to weave bands from the simplest to the more intriguing methods. Much of the class time will be spent on learning to weave with the use of a rigid heddle and your body for tensioning the warp. The instructor will demonstrate other looms that are used to weave bands besides the inkle loom. You will spend the first part of the class learning about the materials used, the other types of looms and weaving a short simple band with a rigid heddle. The second half will be for designing your own band pattern and constructing a rigid heddle to take home.

*Students should bring a bag lunch or money to walk to a nearby coffee shop for lunch.

About the Instructor: Diane Thomson I enjoy many of the fiber arts and learned to weave in high school. I rediscovered weaving in 1985 when I purchased my 1st floor loom. I spent most of my early weaving time on rag rugs until the 90’s when I focused on spinning and knitting. I'm predominantly a knitter now but have recently returned to weaving. Since I have retired to Ely, I've finally been able to spend more time expanding my knowledge in different areas of fiber arts.
