Inkle Loom? What is it? How do you use it? What do you make with it? These are all very good questions. It is a simple loom used to weave bands. These strong colorful woven bands have a long and useful history. Learning to weave on an inkle loom is a great way to learn without investing a huge amount of time or money. The first part of the class will be spent learning about the loom and language of weaving. Students will weave a simple band to understand how the loom works. The second part of class will be spent designing your own band pattern and weaving it. During the class time students will see examples of woven bands and uses for them. Plus have the opportunity of making a key fob from a band. Ely Folk School has looms available for class use or you may bring your own. All weaving materials are part of the class materials fee and will be provided by the instructor.

*Students should bring a bag lunch or money to walk to a nearby coffee shop for lunch.

About the Instructor: Diane Thomson I enjoy many of the fiber arts and learned to weave in high school. I rediscovered weaving in 1985 when I purchased my 1st floor loom. I spent most of my early weaving time on rag rugs until the 90’s when I focused on spinning and knitting. I'm predominantly a knitter now but have recently returned to weaving. Since I have retired to Ely, I've finally been able to spend more time expanding my knowledge in different areas of fiber arts.
