Nature Writing for Women: Winter in the North

Description

Saturday, February 3rd, 2024
10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Tuition: $55

The Ely Folk School uses a sliding scale payment system. We recognize that not all our class prices are accessible for our whole community, and this system allows folks to choose how much they pay for a class. Using a sliding scale helps us work toward our belief in economic justice and accessibility of folk education.
Standard Price: $55
Supporting Price: $65
Supported Price: $45

During the season of reflection, set aside a day at the Ely Folk School on the edge of the Boundary Waters Wilderness to receive winter’s gift of inner nourishment through nature writing. To celebrate the strong bond between women and the natural world, you will generate written pieces in a supportive group circle through reading, discussion, contemplation and free-flowing writing exercises. This class will focus primarily on the early stages of the writing process and include time to reflect on and share our work. Please bring some writing by a favorite author that you especially like. We will take a break and enjoy lunch together at a local venue.

About the Instructor: DyAnne Korda’s work has been published in several journals including The Wisconsin Academy Review, ArtWord Quarterly, and The Agate. Her poetry has also been broadcast on KAXE Radio's morning show, and their literary programs Wordish and Stay Human. Her latest book is The Shore’s Absolute Edge. Along with offering frequent workshops for Ely Folk School, she's taught for the Center of Continuing Education at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Please sign up early. If we do not reach a minimum number of students required, the class may be cancelled. We work to balance students' busy lives with the time and preparation that instructors put into each class!
