Tuition: $25 Materials: $5
From broken bones to infections - humans once grew up learning what to do for various health conditions. The average person had a vast knowledge of self care. People used 'folk medicine' to keep themselves healthy and strong for thousands of years. "Healers" existed, however, this class will cover what the average person knew. We will cover the historical everyperson folk medicine use of packs and poultices for infections, wounds, and fevers. The class will include information on the use of herbs, teas, common weeds, spices, foods, and enemas. You will learn to make and use onion and garlic poultices. The information is strictly for educational and historical purposes. All participants will be required to sign a waiver.
Students should wear an apron or clothes that are okay to get a little dirty. The materials fee includes poultice ingredients for you to make your own.
Herbalism classes taught through the Ely Folk School are led by instructors who have sought out training or education about herbal medicine and are not intended to replace care from medical professionals. These classes are strictly educational, and do not provide treatment, diagnosis, or medical guidance. Attendees acknowledge their responsibility for personal choices.
