Raku firing is an ancient Japanese ceramics technique that has been used for many centuries to create a very unique finish to wares. Glazed ceramics are taken from the kiln while they are still glowing red hot and are then placed in a material that would be able to catch fire, such as sawdust or newspaper. Ready to expand your repertoire? Join Wade and the Ely Folk School for this hands-on workshop. Wade will go over the Raku technique, as well as give feedback as you give it a shot yourself. Previous experience with ceramics is helpful but not required.

About the Instructor: Wade Pharr is the Ely Folk School Ceramics Studio Coordinator! He has been throwing clay in the Ely area for years. You may recognize his work from around town! He believes in the power of practice and is eager to help folks explore functional art via ceramics.
