Pottery Basics

Dive into clay work by learning all about the fundamentals. Use hand tools and simple, approachable techniques--no previous experience required! This class will focus primarily on hand building methods. You can create lots of functional and aesthetic pieces of pottery without ever touching a throwing wheel. Students will learn with close instruction during six sessions of class and have full access to our ceramics studio outside their course. During its duration, students can experiment and practice on their own. Materials fee includes a beginners tool kit and an 8 lb bag of clay.
About your instructor: Jill Anderson has been a summer resident of Ely since 1973 when she married an "Ely boy". Jill and her husband have a cabin on the east of Burntside Lake that is the former Echo Trail Lodge property. Jill spends winters in Arizona. She has taken numerous classes at the Ely Folk School and has sold her pine needle baskets, as well as pottery/pine needle pieces which are a collaborative effort with local potter, Nancy Hernesmaa, at Art and Soul Gallery and the Ely Farmer's Market
