Nature Writing with the Listening Point Foundation
Description
Wednesday, July 16th, 2025
9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Tuition: $78, Materials: $10
Sigurd Olson’s legacy of wilderness education echoes across the Boundary Waters and beyond. Through nature writing, we will immerse ourselves in Sigurd’s landscape and connect with his legacy. In a supportive group, you will generate written pieces through reading, discussion, contemplation, hiking, and free-flowing writing exercises. Class size is limited.
This workshop will meet at the Ely Folk School, but take place at Sigurd Olson's cabin, which was a beloved retreat for the writer and environmentalist and became widely celebrated after his book, Listening Point, was published in 1958. The session will include a brief tour of the cabin and surrounding area. Students will have the option to carpool or drive independently.
Class time will include a break for lunch; students are encouraged to bring a bag lunch, but will not have access to a refrigerator or microwave (please plan accordingly.)
