Nature Writing with the Listening Point Foundation

Description

Wednesday, June 25th, 2025
9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Tuition: $78, Materials: $10

Sigurd Olson’s legacy of wilderness education echoes across the Boundary Waters and beyond. Through nature writing, we will immerse ourselves in Sigurd’s landscape and connect with his legacy. In a supportive group, you will generate written pieces through reading, discussion, contemplation, walking, and free-flowing writing exercises. Class size is limited.

This workshop will meet at the Ely Folk School, but take place primarily in Sigurd’s actual home in Ely. This class includes free admission to the Listening Point Foundation's tour of Sigurd Olson's cabin, which was a beloved retreat for the writer and environmentalist and became widely celebrated after his book, Listening Point, was published in 1958. Separate registration for tours is required and can be found here: (https://www.listeningpointfoundation.org/). Students will have the option to carpool or drive independently from the Folk School to Sigurd's Ely house.

Class time will include a break for lunch; students are encouraged to bring a bag lunch and will have access to a full kitchen with fridge and microwave as needed.
