The Buckthorn plant has been used since medieval times as a stable, reliable textile dye. As an invasive, it is abundant in the Ely area. Students will learn simple dyeing and modifying techniques to obtain a variety of greens on wool, silk, cotton and local native plant fibers using Buckthorn berries. Each class participant will receive samples of the experiments at the end of class. Please come wearing clothing that you are ok with getting dye on!
