With autumn's arrival, the energy of the plants descends down into the roots. Join us as we unearth information about some favorite medicinal roots and celebrate the ritual of the change of seasons. You will get to experience different preparations to best experience these root medicines. The roots that deeply anchor plants are rich with medicinal attributes. We will discuss the plants best used as root medicine and all the ways they nourish and support the body and encourage grounding energy through the seasonal changes. We will also experience the hands-on making of medicinal extracts, including tinctures and vinegar.

About your instructor: Tracy Koivisto is a Certified Clinical Herbalist, Nutritionist, and Astrologer, and Medicinal Herb Farmer who also holds a Master's Degree in Holistic Health and Nature-Based Healing. Tracy believes in plants' healing power and intelligence while trusting one’s body's innate knowing; through her training in vitalist herbal medicine, she facilitates individuals' path to reconnecting with nature. Tracy has family roots here on the Iron Range; her last name means ‘grove of birch trees’ in Finnish, so she feels most at home near the lakes and exploring the birch trees and boreal forest. She looks forward to sharing her love for herbalism and future community cultivation as she returns home to Minnesota and nourishes her life here in Ely.
