Winter sowing, a method where seeds are sown outdoors during the winter months, has experienced a surge in popularity among gardeners. This technique offers several benefits, including natural stratification, reduced need for indoor space, and earlier blooms or harvests in the spring and summer seasons. Moreover, it aligns with sustainable gardening practices by utilizing natural processes and reducing reliance on artificial means of seed-starting. As more gardeners discover its advantages, winter sowing continues to gain traction as a favored approach for starting flower and vegetable seedlings, as well as initiating native or pollinator gardens.

The Ely Folk School will provide soil and seeds. Please bring a clean, gallon sized, translucent or transparent jug(s) in which to start your seeds.
